MOTET
Music Online
Telecommunications Environment for Teaching
Project Overview
- The MOTET Project is a pilot
innovation seeking to merge the real-life performance
worlds, the online communication abilities and
information worlds, and the classroom environment for
learning and teaching music.
-
- Through two scheduled online
performance events, students will study about
contemporary music and experience interactive sessions
with performing musicians and composers. To enhance
the
- online sessions, students will
participate in online curriculua several weeks before and
after each
- performance. Teachers will use
this web-based material in their class to teach about
contemporary
- music. There are activities for
students of varying musical ability, including those with
little or no
- formal training.
-
- After the events, all
curricular material and sound files are available on the
web site for continued use.
CURRICULUMCURRICULUMCURRICULUMCURRICULUM
The curricular activities are grouped into three areas.
Activities are based on late middle-school/early high school
levels. Teachers can modify the activities to suit the needs
of their students. Activities can be done individually or in
pairs or larger groups.
Many activities involve student journals. These are to be
used as reflective tools. Students should feel free to write
anything down in them, being assured no one will ever look
inside but themselves, or the teacher, if the journal is to
be used as an assessment tool (which they often are). All
external writing and assignments use material the student
decides to use from these journals. Students are encouraged
to always look back and see how their work has changed.
Journals can include text, drawings, notation, and more.
