As the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Community Strategic Plan explains, our global technological society is placing new demands for learning on our schools, curriculum, parents, teachers, students, and everyone in our communities. Thus we must learn to invent, adopt, try out, and evaluate new ways of working, learning and communicating. In Vanguard for Learning, we combine local creativity and resources with the DoDEA Strategic Plan and outside expertise, to create and evaluate innovations in learning, teaching and schooling that may be effective for DoDEA schools worldwide.

Vanguard for Learning is a research project sponsored and conducted by people in the following organizations:

• Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA)
• National Science Foundation
• DoDEA Italy District
• DoDDS Schools serving the Aviano Air Base (Aviano HS and ES, Pordenone and Vajont ES)
• BBN Corporation
